The new report produced by the World Economic Forum on the most important risks in the world, shows cybersecurity continues growing and ranks 4th in a pandemics world, climate change and crises. Rather than to worry, it is an issue that needs to take care of immediately.

Illness, including current COVID-19 pandemic, and extreme weather incidents ocupy top the table of short-term risks "Clear and Present Dangers" (up to two years). In the same table, cybersecurity failures ranked fourth this year, three places above placed in 2020.

This veriginous rise in cybersecurity risk level is a clear consequence of rapid digitalization and telecommuting growth during pandemic, which has increased the entreprises exposure by creating more complex and potentially less secure networks.

The report sustain that, if this digitalization path exponentially continues, it could generate catastrophic risks over a longer horizon.

Pandemic we are still experiencing has demonstrated the importance to internet access, about being connected and having as many business aspects and digitalized life as possible. While this has allowed many people to continue working or studying at home, this dependence means that a significant disruption from a cyberattack is becoming increasingly dangerous and paralizing, and cybercriminals know that.

Every year this report, and reality itself, show us that cybersecurity is an essential aspect to stay afloat in an increasingly digital world. In 2021 it is essential to continue elevating cybersecurity culture as a critical issue, and to include it in strategic organizations objectives, and no longer treating it as an isolated business issue.
